How to Deal with Shopify Taxes in India: GST for Shopify Merchants

India follows a Goods and Services Tax (GST) system, which applies to all e-commerce businesses, including Shopify merchants. Unlike the US sales tax system, GST is a centralized tax with different tax slabs based on the type of goods or services.

Mandatory GST Registration

Voluntary GST Registration

• Some merchants voluntarily register toclaim Input Tax Credit (ITC)on purchases.

• Once registered, businesses receive a GSTIN (15-digit unique number).
• The GSTIN must be displayed on invoices and reports.
